It is always an occasion when the BR5-49 Roadshow comes into town. They book a large convention center, advertise and hoards of people show up with all of their antiques for appraising. They film the whole thing for an amusing, regular PBS series.
Oh -- that's ANOTHER roadshow.
This show mixes humor, musicianship, songwriting expertise and good clean fun together into an unforgettable night of Hillbilly Hijinx. Take a look -- you'll see what I mean!

Merchandise Maven Mark will give you a
good deal on all of that BR5-59 merchandise.
Here he is counting the cash. He always
makes sure he's got plenty of change!
If they're out of something, you can either
(a) point the finger of blame or (b) ask him kindly to make sure
they've got those BR5-49 tank tops at the next show.
Mark is waiting for the moment in the
show that Chuck Mead announces that it is his birthday....AGAIN.
Don't forget to bring Mark something for
his special day, now!
SuSu did -- this is the hat she gave him
in Birmingham for his "second" birthday!

Our Chippewa friend Shirley Hernandez
gets a friendly hug from Gary Morse, one of the players from
Dwight Yoakam's band.
He told us to look for Dwight & BR
on the road this summer.
Can you say...ROAD TRIP???

Janet had just come from a corporate (hic!)
party and was ONLY TOO HAPPY to trade fashion tips with drummer
Shaw Wilson.
Note -- they are BOTH wearing fetching
leather jackets!

Gay has a chat with super BR5-49 fan,
Jesse. The J man was later spotted singing, swaying and carrying
on at the Belly-Up Tavern Show in Solana Beach.
You GO, Jesse!

"Hey! I recognized YOU from your
WEBSITE," cried our new pal Russell.
Russ, you are NOW the most FAMOUS BR5-49
FAN in the entire WORLD!
You've been featured on Starrwatcher Online!
Doesn't Gay remind you of some kind of
Dorothy Parker Bon Vivant? She is so Kitty Carlisle sometimes!

Smiling Jay McDowell demonstrates the technique
he used in landing the part of Richard M. Nixon
in the NBC mini-series, "The 70's."
Jay IS NOT a crook! Someone gave him
that doghouse bass, honest!
There's nothing quite like Jay McDowell
on the stage of the famous Whisky A-Go Go.

Donnie "plays that THANG" while
Gary goes into a strumming trance.
Strumming trances are common onstage.
Watch one of those guys in the Eagles sometimes. You'll see!

| Gary Bennett with this year's
model! It's a wonderful, spangly, sparkely suit. |
The shirt and trousers match and it looks
GREAT with the red tie. Mom Bennett -- he really upgraded this
number from the last time we saw him!
He had already dogged the tie by the time
we took this picture.

Chuck Mead -- Man of Many Talents
He sang most of his hits that night -- including Me An' Opie, Little Ramona and others.
Be sure to ask him to quote some dialogue from the David Lynch film, "Blue Velvet."
As you view this photo, imagine him singing...."Candy Colored Clown" while Dennis Hopper huffs on his oxygen tank.
I think Chuck would make a dandy character in the next David Lynch project. If they ever brought back "Twin Peaks," he could be Agent Cooper's new sidekick!
It was also revealed that Chuck can recite entire sections of dialogue from the Beatles' movie, "Help," in addition to some of the tape loop madness of "Revolution No. 9," from the Beatles' "White Album."
Can't wait to find out if he's ever seen "Phantom of the Paradise." Would love to see him do the Keith Allison/Country guy singing part before Swan auditions Beef for the lead in Winslow Leach's "Faust." HAHA!

That Mead Boy -- he's got some BIG hair these days. Could swear he was a beauty queen from Texas. He kinda looks like Johnny Bravo from the Cartoon Network.
Just to prove it -- there's a picture of Johnny Bravo to the right for reference. Tell me you see it, okay??

Make sure you have plenty of fluids during
a performance.
Lack of fluids can lead to serious dehydration
which results in losing the beat.

Chuck gives his best Paul-Is-All Thumbs up to the Tattoo going-ons. The buzz of the evening had to be Gay's new BR5-49 tattoo.
Should you see her in Nashville, quiz her incessantly about it. Make sure you ask her:
- Did it hurt?
- Are those Real Feathers?
- Did Gary Bennett really draw it in on for you?
- Is that red part still healing?
- How come you didn't get an Arigon Starr tattoo?
- How do I get a hold of the dreamy tattoo artist who did the deed for you?
- Why isn't Elrod smoking?
- Is that some kind of Indian spiritual code?
- Will you be getting a matching one on the other side?
- Am I annoying you?

GARY BENNETT
-- MAN OF MANY TALENTS
Although seen by many as a hard-working
country superstar, Gary Bennett is also an aspiring tattoo artist.
Here we see him applying his trade onto
a willing subject.
"All I need is a sharpie," says
Gary of his intricate designs. "It's just a simple stroke
of the pen....and man, you've got a Picasso on your arm!"
