Music Reviews

MEET THE DIVA

It was a very pleasant surprise when I found out one of our local artists was nominated not just for one award, but four of them in the 1999 Native American Music Awards. The highlight is the nomination for Best Female Artist, and one that I wholeheartedly agree with.

Arigon Starr's album, self produced, has received a wonderful reception across North America, and can frequently be heard on many Indian radio stations and on American Indian Radio on Satellite (www.airos.org). Her album is refreshing dip into the new folk sounds with strong guitar accompaniment.

What really sets her album apart is how well her voice, the music and the great self-written lyrics demonstrate that she's never going to be bound by any label as small as "local artist" and is heading for a world wide audience.

It's an album you should have and one that likely will never gather dust.
