FUN IN THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST

Arigon's ba-aack and hitting the highways with her new CD and gee-tar.

Be sure to tune in to Robin Carneen's NAMAPAHH First People's Radio on Thursday, September 7th for a LIVE interview on KSVR 91.7FM. The station is based in Mount Vernon, Washington but can be heard online at KSVR.org. Arigon will chat, sing and visit her friends on the Tulalip Reservation. The show airs from 7:00-8:00pm, Pacific Time.

Also -- we've added a new flyer for Arigon's upcoming show in Nashville. Arigon will be in town for the Americana Music Conference (Sept. 20-22) and will enjoy performing solo-acoustic at the world-famous Bluebird Cafe. More Diva shows are coming up -- and we'll give you the scoop on those as soon as we have it! Stay tuned.

DIVA ON HOLIDAY!

Arigon's taking a little R&R, then hitting the airwaves the week of September 5th.

Those Divas love to travel in style, ennit? Well, we're here to report that our resident Diva, Arigon Starr will be taking a few days of R&R in beautiful Seattle, Washington. If you see her tooling around town, tell them you read about it on Starrwatcher Online. Next week, Arigon will be making the rounds of area Native radio stations, including stops at KSVR-FM in Mount Vernon; KYNR-AM in Yakama; KWSO-FM in Warm Springs, Oregon and KBOO-FM in Portland. As soon as the schedule is set, we'll be the first to let you know. In the meantime, we hoped y'all tuned in to "Letterman" last night and checked out Charlie Hill's set. Yay for Charlie!

INDIANS ON TV? YES!

Arigon's pal Charlie Hill will visit "Late Night With David Letterman" on Wednesday, August 30th. 'Bout time, ennit?

As we mentioned on our front page, legendary Native comedian Charlie Hill will be gracing the Ed Sullivan Theater this Wednesday. As most of you know "Letterman" airs after your local news CBS program at 11:30/10:30pm ET/CT time. "I'll be watching Charlie do his thing in Seattle on KIRO-TV, Channel 7," smiled Arigon. (Yes, the Diva will be on the road again next week, promoting "The Red Road" to various radio stations in the Pacific Northwest.) "I'm so excited about Charlie performing on 'Late Night' -- I can hardly stand the anticipation!" she beamed. As most of you know, Charile has been an Arigon Starr fan and supporter for a long time -- and even took to the stage during the Los Angeles run of "The Red Road" at the Autry National Center. We're hoping all you Starrwatchers will tune in, then e-mail "Late Night" and let them know how much your enjoyed the program. Join Los Angeles Native American theater artists for an open house at the Autry National Center. There will be information for actors, writers, directors, crew and audience members and light refreshments will be served. Everyone is welcome! Come by to meet and greet some of the great folks who make up the Los Angeles Native American theater community, hear about what's coming up at Native Voices at the Autry and the Native Radio Theater Project and find out how you can get involved! You can also sign up for the September 1,2,3 Artist Workshops at the open house!

The first fifty people to arrive will receive FREE ADMISSION to the Museum of the American West and the Autry's last Sizzling Summer Night!

WORKSHOPS ~ WRITING & ACTING FOR THE STAGE & RADIO

WRITING WORKSHOPS
Have a story to tell? Think it might make a good stage or radio play? Native American writers are invited to participate in workshops to learn and hone the craft of writing for the stage and radio. Workshops are available for every level of writer. If you're a Native American with a story to tell, a playwright, poet, novelist, screenwriter, short story writer or storyteller in the oral tradition, you won't want to miss this opportunity!

Native Voices at the Autry and Native Radio Theater Project submission information and applications will be available.

ACTING & AUDITIONING WORKSHOPS
Are you an actor? Native American actors are invited to participate in workshops to sharpen their auditioning skills and learn about Voice Acting (for radio, film and television and for the Native Radio Theater Project). Workshops are available for beginning, intermediate and advanced actors. If you're a Native American actor with some experience under your belt you won't want to miss this opportunity!

Native Voices at the Autry audition information will be available.

THE NATIVE RADIO THEATER PROJECT
Native Voices at the Autry and Native American Public Telecommunications (NAPT) have joined together to create the Native Radio Theater Project. Don't miss Writing Radio Plays and Voice Acting for Radio, Television & Film, two unique opportunities to learn from Tom Lopez and William Dufris of the National Audio Theatre Festival. These award winning guest artists are here from New York to lead workshops designed to help you adapt your story and create interesting characters for a radio play!

Native Radio Theater Project submission information and applications will be available at the workshops.

REZ DOGS OF THE WORLD UNITE!

Arigon takes a whirlwind trip to Santa Fe Indian Market and then hosts the Ute Mountain Native Music Festival in Colorado

Arigon Starr has just flown in from Albuquerque and.... (say it with us loud)....BOY, ARE HER ARMS TIRED. AAAY! Yes, she braved the new security restrictions and took a plane from Los Angeles and headed east to beautiful Albuquerque, New Mexico.

We have a few of her photos -- and we know she's cooking up another Frybread essay. And one on Rez Dogs. AAAY!

Arigon at Four Corners However, we can tell you that it was a fun and successful trip. "I met some new friends and hung out with some of my favorites," said Arigon. Just a few of the notables Arigon saw in Santa Fe -- Todd York and Acee Agoyo from Indianz.com; Randy Reinholz and Jean Bruce Scott from Native Voices at the Autry; Mrs. Jackie Autry -- yes, MRS. Gene Autry (can't wait to see that photo!); actress Ali McGraw; and artist/actor Michael Horse. While hosting in gorgeous Ute Mountain, Arigon met a bunch of new friends including Ute Mountain's Judy Eyetoo; Casper, his Mighty 602 band and his beautiful family (howdy to Tammy & George!); young musician Quintanya Claw; and Bryon -- a traditional Pow-Wow singer who's a good friend of Arigon's pal Glenda Deer.

"The throw-down hit of the music festival were the Apache Crown Dancers and Joe Tohonnie, Jr.," smiled Arigon. "I've never seen a crowd go so wild. It was like they were the Beatles! AAAY!" We'll have more photos and news of Arigon's upcoming swing through the Pacific Northwest in the next few days.

ARIGON'S HEADED TO UTE MOUNTAIN!

Join the Diva for some fun and music at the Native American Music Festival in Colorado.

Dang! We love a free show. Ask anyone! Arigon Starr will be traveling to the beautiful Ute Mountain Casino in Colorado next week for their annual Native Music Festival. Featured performers include reggae-man Casper and blues-rockers Indigenous. There are TWO days of music and dancing -- and Arigon will be your host on both days. We've added the flyer for the event on our "Print Your Own Flyer" page -- and on our Diva Calendar. We hope you'll consider taking a little road trip and enjoying the show. As we mentioned... it's FREE....and should be a good time for all ages.

ROAD PICTURES FROM NMAI/RED ROAD TRIP COMING SOON -- Arigon had an amazing trip back east to perform her one-woman show "The Red Road" at the National Museum of the American Indian in New York City and Washington, DC. Both of the shows were well-attended and Arigon had them laughing, singing and clapping at both events. One of the many folks who stopped in to see "The Red Road" was Pamela Langford, a friend and fan Arigon knows from the BR5-49 Message Board. If y'all aren't hip to BR5-49, they are a Grammy-nominated country music band from Nashville, TN. Pamela said, "I had trouble explaining to my friends what the play was "about." I ended up talking a lot about the weeping rock star as an example of your smarts as a playwright. I still crack up thinking about him. If "The Red Road" comes back, I will definitely see it again and bring friends. "

I saw Arigon Starr perform her one-woman show "The Red Road" tonight at the National Museum of the American Indian.

I don't know where to begin to describe how great her performance was. To say she is multi-talented seems inadequate -- but, she can act and she can sing and she can write! The performance touched on some serious stuff, but it was all funny and entertaining and I left the show feeling very grateful that I got to see it.

The crowd was sizable and very, very appreciative of the performance. I did get to say "howdy" -- but she had many fans to greet, and I had to be somewhere. I hope someday we get to hang out and drink wine and discuss this amazing show, as well as life in general. A performer who makes you think and laugh at the same time is a rare treat.

Oh -- and she doesn't neglect the Choctaw, which is more than I can say for that darned museum!
