WE WILL MISS YOU, MILLIE KETCHESHAWNO!

Millie was a good friend to Arigon and they had fun trading stories about Indian Country! She was good people!

Millie Ketcheshawno

From the family of Millie Ketcheshawno

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we tell you that Millie, our dear mother, sister, and friend, left us for the spirit world on Monday, December 11, 2000 about 10:30 a.m. Last Thursday Millie suffered a grave injury to her head when she accidentally fell at her home in Shawnee, OK. Millie underwent brain surgery Friday morning at the University Hospital in Oklahoma City. With her children Leslie and Gino and other family members by her side, Millie spent the weekend sedated in the hospital. While in a coma, the outlook for her recovery was hopeful and many people were praying for her recovery. Unfortunately Sunday evening her condition declined and her spirit departed on Monday morning.

The family has planned a wake for Thursday, December 14, 2000, 7:00 p.m. at the Gregg Funeral Home, 199 Birkes Road, Eufala, OK 74432, phone 918/689-5322 fax 918/689-1591. Flowers and cards for Millie may be sent there. The funeral service is scheduled for Friday, December 15, 2000, 2:00 p.m. at the Missionary Baptist Church, 1 3/4 miles west of Eufala on Highway 9.

Knowing what a great loss this is to the Bay Area community where Millie has resided for so long, the family welcomes an informal gathering of friends which will be held at Intertribal Friendship House in Oakland, 523 E. International Blvd (14th St) on Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. This is a potluck dinner and an opportunity to share our gift of knowing this wonderful woman. A memorial gathering for the Bay Area community will be scheduled in January once Gino returns from Oklahoma. It will probably be held sometime before the January 19th screening of Millie's film, Alcatraz Is Not An Island, at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah.

A fund has been set up for contributions. Please make checks payable to "Memorial Fund for Millie Ketcheshawno." Deposits may be made directly to the account (Bank of America account #0028 680 28523, specify Norman, Oklahoma). Contributions to this fund are tax deductible but please keep a deposit receipt for your tax records. Any questions concerning the account may be directed to Tiffany Newman (title Personal Banker) at the Norman bank, phone 405/230-3560. Deposit information taken from checks is accessible to the family through the bank. If you make a cash contribution and would like the family to know who it is from please put your name on the deposit slip.

Cards can also be sent to the family at 705 Madeline, Shawnee, OK 74801. The family greatly appreciates all the prayers and calls they have received and would like to thank you all for your concern and support. Please send out your prayers to all family members and especially Leslie, Gino & Mike.

Please also distribute this letter to friends who may not yet know of Millie's passing.

Mvto from Millie's brothers Bird Creek Phillips and Frank Phillips, her children, Gino Barichello and Leslie Deer, and from her many other relatives.
