Arigon at the NAMM ShowTHE AWARDS JUST KEEP ON COMING

Congratulations, Arigon! The Diva has received a prestigious award from the Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival!

Three cheers for the Diva! The Los Angeles Women's Theatre Festival have presented the Festival 2005 "Maverick Award" to multi-talented Arigon Starr. The award will be handed out on Thursday, March 17th during the organization's Twelfth Annual Festival Gala. "This award is bestowed upon an artist or individual whose work has set a high standard of individuality and self-styled creativity," said co-founder and executive producer Adllah Barnes. Previous recipients of the Maverick Award include Rachel Rosenthal, Nichelle Nichols (Uhura -- we LOVE YOU!!), Diane Castle and Sumi Haru. Danny Glover and Hattie Winston are this year's Honorary Chairpersons, so we'll be sure to give you a full report of the festivities. The public is invited to the celebration.

If you're interested in attending, here's the scoop. Admission to the Opening Night Gala is $50 per pair of tickets, or $30 each. It takes place March 17 at 7 p.m. at Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Barnsdall Art Park, 4800 Hollywood Blvd., just west of Vermont in Hollywood. There is a Metro Rail stop at the park entrance, and bus lines also serve the location. There is also onsite automobile parking available.

BEHIND THE SCENES AT NATIVE VOICES AT THE AUTRY'S "KINO AND TERESA"

Arigon is hard at work creating another memorable performance for the upcoming production of "Kino And Teresa." There are some great people involved in the production, including Patrick Mirabal (Robert Mirabal's brother), Thirza Dafoe and actress Jeri Arredondo -- that's them at the right at the rehearsal space of the Shakespeare Festival Los Angeles. "This is an entirely new experience for me," said Arigon. "In just the first week, I've been part of a choreographed fight with a real fight captain -- and taught how to waltz!" This Native Voices at the Autry production is also an important milestone for indigenous theater. It's the first Equity Theater production with an all-Native cast performing a work based on a Shakespeare play. The groundbreaking cast includes Rose-Yvonne Colletta, Michael Wise, Elena Finney, Robert Vestal, Andrew Roa, Kalani Queypo, Ivan Naranjo, Sammy Espinoza, Scott Amiotte, Robert Greengrass, Gil Birmingham, Kevin Sifuentes, Noah Watts -- and our cover guys Bradford Kelly and Jason DeHoyos. We'll have more from the production in coming weeks. "Kino And Teresa" opens on FRIDAY, MARCH 4th at the Wells Fargo Theater at the Autry National Center. Get your tickets NOW -- we predict this is going to be a hot item!

HOT ITEMS

For those of you who missed the original airing of the Earthsongs "kitchen concert" featuring Arigon, Thaddeus and Nick at last year's Grassroots Radio Conference, the program is airing again THIS WEEK. Check Earthsongs.net for times in your area. . . . Arigon will be performing a staged reading of her one-woman show "The Red Road" as part of the Los Angeles Theater Project's festival of plays. The reading is set for Wednesday, March 30th. Show time, location and ticket prices will be announced shortly. . . Like that photo at the top of the page? We sure do! It was takent at the NAMM Trade show at the Dean Markley Strings booth. The group performed a rockin' set with borrowed equipment that had everyone's toes a-tapping. They also saw Nuno Bettencourt there (he was signing autographs at the same booth). As you might remember, Nuno was part of the rock group Extreme -- and, like Arigon, is a friend of Queen's Brian May. Did you hear that Queen are hitting the road with vocalist Paul Rodgers? That should be interesting!

Gary Bennett picks and grins in NashvilleGARY BENNETT ROCKS!

Arigon's pal, Gary Bennett is busy recording a brand new solo project. You might remember Gary from BR549 or from his contributions to BACKFLIP. "I spent some time with him a week ago at his studios in Nashville, where I got to preview some of the songs that will be featured on the upcoming solo project," said Arigon. "Let me tell you -- it's gonna be an awesome CD!" Gary is also returning to live performances -- and Arigon will be joining him onstage to sing "Mountain Windsong" in Nashville on Thursday, April 28th. The show is called "Are You Ready For The Country?" and will also feature Chris Scruggs' new group and BR549! There is more information on Gary's website and at Are You Ready For The Country's site. This is going to be one awesome show -- so if you're in the Nashville area, get your tickets pronto! We predict this will be a hot ticket!
