DIVA FAVORITE JOHN ENTWISTLE WALKS ON

While we were updating the site today, the sad news came on the radio that one of rock n' roll's greatest, The Who's bassist John Entwistle, walked on this morning in Las Vegas, Nevada. As some of you know, the Who was set to start an extensive tour on Friday at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas....and well, it isn't happening now. Arigon met Mr. Entwistle a couple of times in her travels. One enounter was backstage at the Los Angeles Coliseum and just a few years ago at the NAMM Convention in Anaheim, California. "I'm glad I was able to tell him how much I enjoyed his music and how influential his bass style was to me. He was a very gracious, kind gentleman," said Arigon. There's a little more information on Yahoo.com. Even more information is at E! Online. Everyone here at Starrwatcher Online sends their regards to the Entwistle family and especially Who fans across the planet.

Arigon with Susan BraineNATIVE AMERICAN JOURNALISTS ROCK IN SAN DIEGO!

Arigon spent a day visiting with some her friends attending the Native American Journalists (NAJA) convention last week in San Diego. She caught up with friends like Marley Shebala of the Navajo Times, Minnie Two Shoes, Paul DeMain, Harlan McKosato and the lovely Susan Braine (pictured at left), the Executive Producer of "Native America Calling." There were also folks from Yakama Nation, KGNU-FM, KCIE-FM and Alaska's Native Voice, KNBA FM. "There are a lot of stories to tell in Indian Country and these are the professionals working hard to tell them. My mom told me it made her want to run off and become a journalist!" cried Arigon.

Richie, Arigon and LilyCONGRATULATIONS JIM BOYD, RICHIE PLASS AND ALL OF THE OTHER NATIVE AMERICAN MUSIC AWARD NOMINEES!!!

Well, it's Nammy Time again!! Nominees for the Fifth Annual Native American Music Awards have been announced and Arigon is pleased that so many of her friends have been recognized for their fine work. Richie Plass, Menominee and member of the Wolf River Band (pictured at the right with Arigon and his wonderful Oneida wife Lily) received a nomination for Best Folk/Country Artist, while pal Jim Boyd received multiple nominations. Even Arigon's friend Natay, the notorious Navajo rapper, was called out for his fine music. The public is again invited to vote online at http://www.nammys.com. We hope you'll take the time to go vote for your own favorites and maybe even attend the awards program. The big shindig happens on Saturday, September 7th during the Indian Summer Festival in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Good luck, everybody!

Ken Wahpecome and his Crazy Daughter, ArigonEUREKA! THEY HAVE FOUND IT!

Arigon has been spending a bit of time down in San Diego with her folks, Ken and Ruth Wahpecome. This is one of Arigon's fave pix with her Dad. They both love a road trip! This photo was taken near Lake Havasu, Arizona. If you are ever in need of an "Indian Scout," these are the two people you want to call! In Ken's earlier days, he was known to hitch rides with big rigs -- including a jaunt from Haskell Indian School in Lawrence, Kansas all the way home to Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Give yourself a fun "Map Quest" challenge and figure out how many miles that ride was!

COMING SOON TO ALBUQUERQUE!

All of you Southwestern Arigon Starr fans are in for a treat! Arigon will be traveling to Albuquerque, New Mexico to appear on the national call-in program, NATIVE AMERICA CALLING on Wednesday, July 17th. The program airs live at 1:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time. Jake, The Beloved Cat & FriendFOR CAT LOVERS EVERYWHERE

For those of you who know Arigon Starr, you know of her deep love for JAKE. Jake passed away peacefully early this morning in Los Angeles. Jake was a black and white tuxedo cat who was born in August 1988. Arigon and Janet Miner rescued him, along with his brother Elwood, from a litter of kittens who were born in an alley somewhere in the San Fernando Valley. Jake developed diabetes a few years ago, and Janet and Arigon provided daily insulin doses for him.

In this photo, you can see Jake lounging on Arigon's bed, one of his favorite places. His ready purr and ability to provide comfort when times were tough will be missed. From all of us here at Starrwatcher Online, we salute you, Jake. You were a king among kitties!

Arigon Onstage at the Snake & WeaselARIGON'S BACK IN LOS ANGELES....FOR NOW!

Before we even get this news business started -- we need to give a shout out to RUTH WAHPECOME, Arigon Starr's mom, who celebrated her birthday on Monday, June 4th.

Be sure to send along birthday greetings via the website here and we'll pass them along to Mrs. Wahpecome. We are certain she had a wonderful day!

All the best to you, MOM WAHPECOME!!!

Believe it or not -- we actually have photos from the Portland trip.

Arigon has been remiss in going to the photo lab, so there haven't been a lot of photos to share with ya'll. Thanks to the generosity of Mary Sue Gulzow and her nifty digital camera you can be part of the festivities at the Snake & Weasel in Portland, Oregon. This photo here is Arigon onstage, either singing nicely or bantering with the audience.

Spider Moccasin! For those of you wondering about Spider Mocassin, besides being an amazing human being -- he's cute, too.

To top all of that off, he is also an amazing performer. You will be able to see him at this year's Wy-Kan-Ush-Pum (it used to be called "Jammin' For Salmon") Festival. Our Evan Adamsfavorite Spider story -- he was recently mistaken for Evan Adams! [There's a photo of Arigon with Evan at the right. Shop and compare!]

By cracky, I definitely see a resemblance.

This incident occured following the screening of "The Business of Fancy Dancing" in Portland last weekend. We need our movie writing friends to come up with a Evan Adams/Spider Moccasin twin movie.Watch out, Olsen Twins -- the Indian Boys are back in town! AAAAAY!

LUKE WARM WATER -- INDIAN POET, PROPANE FUEL PROPONENT AND DIVA FAN!

Luke Warm Water & ArigonProbably the most scandalous moment of the entire Snake & Weasel evening was poet Luke Warm Water's spoken word performance.

Luke is an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota Tribe. He self-publishes his dark, yet humorous poetry. A veteran of the "Poetry Slam" circuit, his latest book is "John Wayne Shot Me," and it's terrific!

Here Luke "meets" the Diva in true NDN Man fashion. AAAAAAY! If we see this picture in the NDN tabloids, we'll know EXACTLY where it came from! AAAAY! Maybe we should have blacked out the eyes!
