Beaded Vest and ALL!More recently...well, February 1999....The Diva encountered Sherman at the First Americans in the Arts Awards. "Smoke Signals" was a big winner at the event -- and the Diva had fun meeting many of the stars from the film. As the Diva and Sherman locked eyes across a crowded hotel ballroom....she yelled, "Sherman!" He yelled back, "Diva!" It was truly a wonderful moment.

As many of you know, Arigon and her band played live at the awards dinner, along with Native group Clan/Destine. It was all good.

Arigon and her sister Gay also acquainted themselves with Evan Adams ("Thomas Builds-The-Fire"), the beautiful and not-at-all-old Monique Mojica ("Grandma Builds-The-Fire") and the always lovely Elaine Miles. They also caught up with their old buddy, Irene Bedard. Some of you Starrwatchers might remember Irene from the fab gig in Pasadena a few years back to support the Sovereign Dineh's fight against relocation from Big Mountain.

PHOTOS FROM THE TRULY WONDERFUL EVENING:

Lovely Elaine Miles (Marilyn from "Northern Exposure" and Lucy, the backwards driver from "Smoke Signals")

L-R: Gay Wahpecome, Irene Bedard (mid-blink!) and Arigon. She played Suzy Song in "Smoke Signals" and Mary Crow Dog in "Lakota Woman" -- and stars in "Naturally Native!"

Arigon and Monique Mojica who starred as Grandma Builds-The-Fire.

"I want my picture taken with the tiniest Indians in the World," cried Sherman. There's Evan Adams, Elaine Miles, Sherman and Arigon clowning for photographers!
