The Latest Diva Fall Round Up!

Yellow Balloon in Taos, NM

Up, Up and Away…in my Bee-yoo-tee-full bal-looooon! A big yellow balloon flies over the house in Taos, New Mexico.

As many of you already know — Arigon Starr has been on a lengthy road trip, promoting “Super Indian Volume One” and performing live music gigs.

Her travels took her through Phoenix, Albuquerque, Oklahoma City, Okmulgee, Norman…then back through Albuquerque on the way back to Los Angeles. “I traveled my favorite road, Interstate 40,” she laughed. “Think I know that highway like the back of my hand — just like Richard Doolittle bragged in my play ‘The Red Road.’ I even like the boring parts. A long road trip really gives my creative mind an opportunity to wander.”

Arigon made a brief stop at the Albuquerque Tri-Con. “Thank goodness, Jonathan Nelson, one of the members of the Indigenous Narratives Collective, did most of the heavy lifting,” revealed Arigon. “Some of my family came out from Oklahoma to join me and my Mom in New Mexico. Jonathan’s hard work let me spend some extra time with my kin folks in Taos.”

As you can see above — the family was there to experience the annual Taos Balloon Fiesta. “My friend Janet Holmberg told me they flew right over her house…and danged if it wasn’t true,” laughed Arigon. “My cousins and I spent most of the time on Janet’s patio snapping pictures and taking video. It was amazing how close the balloon were.”

Another exciting stop on the road trip was Arigon’s first performance and academic visit to the campus of the University of Oklahoma. She spoke to two classes in Native American Studies, one for Dr. Todd Fuller and Dr. Geary Hobson. At the lunch break, Arigon treated the campus to a several of her classic tracks, including “Mountain Windsong” and “The Red Road.”

“One of my favorite moments was debuting a new song I’ve been working on for awhile,” Arigon said. “It’s called ‘Oklahoma Home’ and I think I’ve improved it since the last time I sang it back at Cain’s Ballroom. It’s a song full of pride about all the tribes in Oklahoma and how even though Oklahoma isn’t the original lands of the tribes here….we’ve made it our home. I tell you — I felt like Celine Dion belting that song out a cappella.”

Could this be one of the new tracks on Arigon’s next CD project? We sure hope so!

Speaking of Arigon’s CDs….there’s a rumor that Arigon is going to do some super Holiday sales for the product on the website. Watch this space….you’ll want to get copies of her back catalog for your friends and family!

On the “Super Indian” front — the comic book/graphic novel continues to sell steadily from Amazon and the Super Indian Comics website. “Super Indian Volume One” is also available from iTunes for your iPad or iPhone and on for your Kindle device.

“It wasn’t easy to get the book formatted for digital devices….but somehow I persevered.” We think it’s cool that Arigon not only creates the content for “Super Indian,” but that she also masterminds the computer programs to get her work out to the fans.

Arigon has lots of irons in the fire at the moment. We will keep you posted on her future exploits! She’s always doing something fun!
