We Danced On

[html5mp3small:6300]

Can you feel it?
Feel the Beat getting strong?

CHORUS
We Danced On
We Danced On
On the Earth and in the Sky
On the Earth and in the Sky

Her traditional steps from Grandmother’s time
Reveal her care
She dances to honor the memories and dreams
And it’s done with flair

Can you feel it?
Feel the beat getting strong?

CHORUS

His feet making dust as he pounds in the ground
All his steps so sure
He knows all the songs
and he stops right on time
He creates a stir

Can you feel it?
Feel the beat getting strong?

CHORUS

Tell me the dream
That you want to weave
I’ll bead the cloth
The way you want it to be
Feathers that dance
Jingles that sing to the sky
To the sky

Watching you dance reminds me of those
Who’ve gone before
We treasure their gifts and we will be sure
To add some more

Can you feel it?
Feel the beat getting strong?
We Danced On
We Danced On
On the Earth and in the sky
On the Earth and in the sky

ABOUT “WE DANCED ON

Arigon says, “I love pow-wow dancing. I am a great admirer of those who take the time to learn the dance, sew the regalia and participate in keeping traditions alive. This is my tribute to those who fancy dance, wear jingle dresses or have the patience to bead — and do it with style!”

Here’s an excellent video shot at the Ponca City Fancy Dance competition by author (“Muscogee Daugther: My Sojourn To The Miss America Pageant”) Susan Supernaw. Be sure to watch all the way through to experience that “wow” moment when the dancers stop on time!
